Lindt Wrapper Flowers

Yep... I've eaten far too many chocolates this Christmas, and I confess that im one of those annoying people who stuff the wrappers back in the box (to make it look like I haven't eaten as many!) So I tiped all the wrappers out of my lindt box to get to the last one, and while savoring it and promising myself I will starty diet tomorrow... I started playing with the wrappers and made some cute little flowers... I started by smoothing out the wrappers and folding them in half, coloured side out. I then concertina folded the wrappers. For a neater finish, keep the raw edge facing the back) Once you have folded 4 wrappers, glue together along each edge to make a circle (I used my glue gun for a quick stick, but watch the heat doesnt melt the plastic! ) I finished off gluing a middle to my flower and a bbq skewer to the back voilà.... they'd also look cute to top a present..... dont feel so bad about eating them now ;-)

Well I hope everyone has had a good Christmas and you're enjoying the festive holiday.
I've have been slowly coming down with a cold since Christmas eve which I hope has peaked today.

Actually, considering ive spent the last two days in my pj's I've been quite productive, I've managed to update this blog, create a facebook page (the sewing baker) to launch my sewing business and prepare my Etsy account, again all ready to launch in January.

I've just got 3 costumes to make by the end of tomorrow... off to get the fabric first thing... nothing like last minute ideas!

3 little monkeys jumping on the bed....

 I crocheted the monkeys from a pattern in a magazine (sorry, I've no idea which one or where it is now!) they were supposed to have Christmas hats on, but as this is one of my favourite rhymes, I wanted to make it come alive for my little nephew, so I embroidered the words onto the bag.  

 

With hindsight, I should have marked out the lines for even writing, but this was finished late at night with very little time left to finish it, so I just did it completely freehand..

Personalised Wash Bag

 A washable, draw string flannelet wash bag lined with blue cotton to match the star, personalised with name. Great for overnight camps and trips away

  A present for a fellow crafter - a project bag.  the handles pull the bag closed though a number of button holes.  I saw this idea on a blog, then created my own style, I am going back a few years now, so I can't link the blog I found this on, if any one knows of it, please let me know and I'll update.

Christmas Cushion

On 1st December, I love to transform my home to give a really cosy Christmasy feel. I love to replace lamps with Christmas lamps and fairy lights, swap vases of flowers for wintery displays and this year I managed to make some Christmas cushions... well a Christmas cushion... But I do intend to make a star cushion to match, and some other festive cushions so I can replace my cushions at Christmas too

I love to personalise my home with things unique to me and my family; my childrens drawings, photos etc and I love the idea of personal cushions... so I decided to sew my family on a cushion... Its a simple drawing in the matchstick style I always doodle in but really does bear a close resemblance to us!

Using squares of red tissue paper and pva glue, I covered the bauble and hung to dry

I'm very pleased how this costume turned out! It had been my work Christmas party the night before and as we drove home the next day with a woolly head, i suddenly remembered it was 'dress as a famous person' day at my sons school! I managed to whip this up in just a couple of hours and was pleasantly suprised with the result!

My first knitted hat

Beginning to Knit


I have wanted to learn to knit for sometime now, I mastered crocheting a few months ago with the help of an amazing book 'Stitch N' Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller. I stumbled across it at our local library, thumbed through it and just had to borrow it. I like her style of no nonsense, amusing easy to understand instructions. So for Christmas I asked my sister for the Stitch 'n Bitch : The Knitters Handbook. and I learned to knit! Not content with just knitting squares, I jumped straight in with a the ribbed hat! The pattern needed chunky wool, but I only had DK in a colour suitable for a boy (!) so I just used two strands together and it worked just fine! The hat is amazing it fits all of us!



And so my passion for knitting has been born. I have ordered so much yarn (must stop calling it wool!) I stumbled across a couple of fab websites to buy discount yarn one being Kemps Wool Shop, I have placed a number of orders with them, they have always impressed me with a quick delivery, which usually arrives just a couple of days after my order.



Always keen to do things as cheaply as possible, I managed to get hold of all my knitting and crochet needles from a house clearance shop for a very small price. I know Charity shops often have a stash, they're usually tucked away so its best to ask if they have any.
